Ketoprofen is an arylalkanoic acid compound with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. Its poor water solubility, however, impacts its clinical efficacy. Fukuda et al. compared the solubilizing effects of β-CD and SBECD on ketoprofen. In vitro dissolution tests showed that the SBECD-ketoprofen inclusion complex prepared by hot-melt extrusion achieved 91.6% drug dissolution in 0.1 mol·L⁻¹ hydrochloric acid solution at 30 min, while the β-CD-ketoprofen inclusion complex achieved only 55.4% under the same conditions. The results indicate that SBECD forms a more stable complex with ketoprofen than β-CD, significantly improving ketoprofen's dissolution rate and potentially its bioavailability.
